Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD)
The PERD initiative seeks to promote the development of tree crop commodity value chains for the production of sustainable good quality raw materials to meet local and industrial demands as well as for exports.
This Module’s focuses on high value tree crops, which include cashew, coffee, coconut, oil palm rubber and shea.
The Module’s tripod strategic pillars focuses on
- efficient on-farm support – provision of certified planting materials
- reliable business support – formation and formalization of commodity value chain (FBOs) and
- effective regulatory management – Tree Crop Development Authority and other regulatory policies implementation
Modalities
Each district has selected two (2) tree crops of socio-economic importance to their climatic location. Certified seedlings of the two selected high value tree crops are produced and distributed to participating farmers in those districts.
Interested farmers should contact the Agricultural Extension Officers/Agents in the district and regional agriculture departments for booking and allocation of certified seedlings for planting in their farms.
Government has fully subsidised the cost of the seedlings (cashew, coffee, coconut and oil palm) for participating farmers.
